Check Out How Desmond Elliot, Deyemi, and More Paid Tribute to Olu Jacobs
Nigerian star and legend Olu Jacobs recently clocked a milestone age of 80 years old. The renowned actress who has starred in some of Nollywood’s biggest blockbusters including Eye of the Gods, Royal Tears, Ashanti, Bloody Ring, Oloibiri, Dry, and many more. Last year, it was revealed that Olu is currently battling with Dementia with Lewy bodies.
Still, there is no reason to cry, especially during the celebration of this massive milestone. The incredible actor turned 80 on the 11th of July and in celebration of the monumental moment, seven Nollywood actors sat down to pay their respects to him. Actors Deyemi Okanlawon, Desmond Elliott, Stan Nze, Tope Tedela, Shawn Faqua, Gideon Okeke, and Benjamin Touitou all gathered around a roundtable to talk about what makes a legend, why Olu Jacobs is a legend, and the words that come to mind when they hear his name. Here’s what was said.
We know Olu Jacobs is a legend. So to you, what makes a man a legend?
Stan Nze – So I think the things you’ve left behind, the things you’ve done. The things that have impacted people over the years. The things that people can look back on and say “Ah! I remember him for this, I remember him for that.” We remember different people for different things.
Deyemi Okanlawon – Just to simplify it a little bit, you cannot be or you cannot have a legend without a legacy. A legacy is your footprint, what you’ve left behind over time. Not just physically but in the hearts of people. And by whatever definition of legend, icon, that you want to use, Olu Jacobs marks all those boxes. He ticks all those boxes. He’s a true icon.
Desmond Elliott – Just to add, I think it’s the kind of value you give to others. So a legend is not necessarily yourself. You become a legend because you’ve impacted something in people’s lives.
Shawn Faqua – I kinda think that the basic or the foundation for you to appear in that space is sacrifice. On whatever level. It can be relative so someone can be a legend to me, like I can say “oh my dad is a legend” but nobody knows about him, but because he has sacrificed so much and we have seen the benefits of that sacrifice. So for me, first and foremost is sacrifice. What are you willing to sacrifice.
Stan Nze – And I think that sometimes they’re not the one that actually reaps the fruit of their works. It’s a sacrifice. They did some background things that people are reaping off now.
Desmond Elliott – That’s when you become legendary.
